to desire the replica

No matter how pissy of a mood I am in, if it’s a Wednesday, I’m guaranteed to feel better by 10am. The reason for this? The Wednesday Farmer’s Market is on the block next to my office. It’s not spectacular in the summer months but once fall hits…. Oh my holy hell. Mountains of waxy green beans, dark purple beets and squash of every imaginable colour. Piles of tomatoes, bright yellow ears of corn and half a dozen different types of peppers. Peaches, plums, early apples that are small and tart and the ever popular bakery stall.

Food like that makes me happy. Even when I’m cranky.

We were given some home grown beets the other day and I’m salivating over the idea of some borscht with sour cream. OH YEAH! I like my veggies.

I want to live next to the market, damn.

OMG farmer’s market, brunch, then couples yoga!

I needed a Farmer’s Market yesterday! Some little pricks broke into my car (OK…I was tired and accidentally left it unlocked) on Monday night and rifled through all my Search and Rescue stuff, stole my iPod, and…most sinister of all…smoked my fucking cigars that I keep in my SAR stuff! Smoking somebody else’s cigars is lower than a snake’s scrotum in my opinion. Good news is they caught the little fuckers and I may get my iPod back but I still want 5 minutes in the holding cell with them to dispense some Irish justice on them for taking another guy’s cohibas.

Mmm farmers markets. I LOVE them so much. I love finding little treasures and getting cheap vegetables and just wandering around looking. I’m jealous!

shine Says:

YUM.

Kim Says:

Brian- at least they caught the little bastards!

Jeannie Says:

We’ve got 2 local farmer’s markets - 1 is a huge touristy thing - but I rarely go to either - I don’t much like the crowds of people. However, I’m thinking of making an effort to support (and eat) free range chickens and such. I’m having ethical issues buying the supermarket tortured meat.

There is something so joyful about fresh produce! The colors, the shapes, the abundance. Lovely images.

Hannah Says:

Hmmmm..those foods make me happy too! Good on you for supporting local farmers! :)

Yummy-looking well displayed fall bounty = happy. YES!
