to desire the replica

This has got to be one of the most iconic images that still stands today. Or at least it did until this morning when a couple of jackasses fucking stole it!

Seriously? What the fuck were you thinking? What do you intend to do with it? It isn’t some flashing amber street sign that teenagers use to favor stealing for their bedrooms. This is a rather enormous iron sign standing at the gates of a death camp! I can tell you from personal experience that standing under that sign is a feeling like no other that I’ve ever had before. It’s as though the very ground under that sign weeps.

And someone fucking took it. I just can’t fathom the reason why anyone would do that. It’s like spitting on the grave of millions.

Neo-nazi fucking peckerheads…gotta be. Ever met any of those guys? I was at a conference in Toronto once and ran into a gaggle of them on my way home from the pub to my hotel. Not the first time my mouth or “Irish diplomacy” almost got me killed.

Kim Says:

Yeah- I know what you mean- they’re a whole other breed of psycho.

Mr C Says:

I saw this crap too, how the heck or why the heck would someone do this.

You really went their? That must have been incredibly emotional.

Kim Says:

Yeah- honestly, it was beyond description. I was standing in front of this pond into which they put the ashes from the crematoriums and I remember thinking “I’m standing in front of a pond of human ashes. How is this even fucking possible?”

Mr C Says:

Wow

Brian Smart Says:

When we lived in Ontario for about 15 years, the Olssons lived across the river from us. Eva Olsson, the grandmother and gentle matriarch of the family, lost her father and brother at Aushwitz/Birkneau, but her and her little sister somehow survived. 87 members of her extended family were murdered by the Nazis. Eva wrote a few boods (google her if you like) and speaks to people about tolerance, respect, and love for each other. I often wondered how someone, who had endured so much, lost so much, could be that way but I guess she has an understanding of what it is to be human that none of us can really understand. A great lady; she used to stand out on her dock in her rubber boots and straw hat and clap when my son caught a fish and pump her fist in the air and yell “woo hoo”.

Ashley Says:

I saw that today and said exactly the same thing. What sick fuck does that? Do people have no respect anymore?

Kim Says:

It sounds like you were lucky to have known her.
:)

Jeannie Says:

I shouldn’t be surprised but I’m continually taken aback at the stupid things people do. Hard to believe we’re even the same species sometimes.

LiLu Says:

That actually makes me sick to my stomach.

Kami Says:

Hello, Utter Disbelief! Really? I don’t understand. Really?!!

Those poor fucking jews, seems like there is always someone picking on them, they just don’t seem to get on well with those god damned gentiles. They should be given a chunk of land somewhere to call home, that would surely end the violence and bloodshed.

And DO keep places like auschwitz maintained, icons of war, fear and horror, monuments to define race and religion; eminent distractions to keep us from knowing what really took place in it’s entirety. Hang your fucking head in shame and think of those that died; DO NOT educate yourself to who, what, why, and where it is today.

“standing under that sign is a feeling like no other that I’ve ever had before”

And you think that is a good thing? Wouldn’t it be better to walk through a herbal garden that grows food and medicine for the poor and honor those that died, than to stand in that fucking dreary place? auschwitz should be bull-dozed as it only marks the evil of those that created it, not those that passed.

But perhaps the leaders don’t want to part with the death camp just yet, as it might come in useful again in the future, and so match the ones presently being built. (google it if you like)

ps: for the record, we never took flashing street signs, you must be thinking of someone else; we preferred a panty collection posted on the wall.

I blogged on this, myself, after first learning about it from your post here.

I’m not even going to acknowledge Joey Jumpstick’s brutishly insensitive, pig-ignorant comments, except to say that if I see him on my blog, then he WILL be banned.

He’ll correct me if I’m wrong of course, but most of his family’s grandparents’ generation have died, or will die, of old age. Half of mine died in Hitler’s camps, or fighting against the Wermacht in Eastern Europe/Russia.

Hey Dan,
I appreciate your passion, but perhaps the finer arts of sarcasm and cynicism are lost, and my post is misunderstood.

What I am saying is that war is bad. Also, that war is generally created, by the powers that be, dividing people and pitting one against the other. Finally, that negative energy can only be healed by something positive. I’m not spitting on any graves nor drawing lines in the sand. I am sympathizing for all people that have died and leaving a message for the living.

Kim Says:

Uhm, no Joey, You’re not- you’ll pulling the same crappy passive aggressive “Oh I’m sorry! Did I offend?” Bullshit that you have since you jumped here- I’m done. Go play somewhere else. You’re lame back and forth isn’t interesting anymore.

Kim Says:

Dan- Gonna go over & check out your post in the morning (just back in town- very long weekend!!!!!) thanks for the link!!!!!

Why would anyone want to steal something from a death camp? To keep as a memorial? That’s incredibly creepy.

Kim Says:

I’m glad they found it- even though it’s been cut into THREE FUCKING PIECES!!!!

Dan Says:

The article linked above says that these 5 useless tits who did this may face up to 10 years in prison. Good. Need I say why the book needs to be thrown–hard–at these parasites?

Hmmmm….Check raw commodities prices (metals, ores, minerals, etc); They have not been going down at all in recent years. And that’s a good chunk of high-quality steel.

Kim Says:

I still just can’t fucking believe they did it. And cut it in to pieces.

Dan Says:

Every time I think I’ve seen/heard it all, some pathetic little human always seems to find a way to drop the bar that little bit lower…

…(Sigh) Misanthropy: It keeps the blood pressure down!
