I don’t get it. I am truly baffled that Proposition 8 passed in California. As I am a heterosexual Canadian living in BC it doesn’t affect me directly, but it certainly affects us all in other ways. Passing prop 8 means that people are okay with government getting the final say on whether or not two consenting adult can marry. Yes, I do understand that under “domestic partnership” gay couples are afforded the same tax and partner benefit rights as married hetero couples are but that isn’t the fucking point people!

Passing prop 8 is a slap in the face to all loving gay families and couples because essentially it says “we don’t recognize you as legitimate.” In the jaded “winner take all” society that prevails today we should be celebrating the fact that two people want to commit themselves to each other, not pulling down pants and checking for his n’ hers accessories. Marriage isn’t some mysterious esoteric society that requires a fucking password and a secret handshake. All it should require are two consenting adults. It’s ludicrous.

If you don’t believe in the right of gay marriage then here’s an idea, don’t enter into one! But do not for one fucking second think that you should have the right to determine whether or not other people can. Prop 8 shouldn’t have even been on the ballot, let alone pass.

I am embarrassed at how utterly selfish and bigoted people can still be, all the while pointing out their other marvels of tolerance.

Fucking jackasses!

Stever Says:

Seems the religious right gets their panties all up in a bunch over the WORD “marriage” itself. They are fine with a “union”, even one that affords all the same rights and benefits as for heteros, just don’t call it a “marriage”.

For some reason they have appointed an English language WORD as sacred on a religious level and only they are allowed to dispense the meaning of that word.

I say…anyone can get married…it should be your choice.

Donna Says:

I second Chick. Kim, will you marry me? In California? The fuckers. lol

Kim Says:

Donna I’m on my way! (Just don’t tell Steve)

Donna Says:

Hey Kim… read this. A great post. http://nofo.blogspot.com/

Kim Says:

Donna- OMG!!! Great post! And serves to piss me off even more about this fucking ridiculousness!

As a Californian, I can tell you I was shocked this passed, but it WAS heavily funded. Mostly by the Mormon church, which is uber-wealthy. It’s going to be overturned I think because its legality is being questioned. Also, the Mormon church may end up losing its tax-exempt status for promoting a political agenda (which one can’t do & still retain said tax-exempt status). It’s a huge mess.

There are a lot of homophobes out there, and I totally blame churches & rightwinger for creating the hateful atmosphere.
