Beautiful. Thank you.

Poignant.

I get weepy on this day. The Last Post always gets me. The thought of the Last Post gets me. I’ve never known anyone who died in a war.

Last post gets me too; and of course today they had to add in “Amazing Grace” on the pipes followed by the Whitehorse Choir singing “Danny Boy”. I had to come home and watch “Brian’s Song” and “Love Story” just to cheer up.

My great-grandfather fought in World War 1 with the 204th Battalion. Made it through the final two years of the war and all the way home to Toronto by troop ship…and disappeard between Union Station and High Park. They figured he was so traumatized by sending younger men to their almost certain deaths that he got off the train and just started walking. Nobody ever figured out where he ended up.
