to desire the replica

Steve & I watched 2 flicks this weekend that both belong on the MUST SEE list.

First is . Once. I cannot say enough about this tiny inexpensive indy film that kicked Hollywoods ass with less than $100,000. and a couple of handy cams. It’s beautiful, it’s tender and it’s weird. Just the way I like it. I was mesmerized through its entierty and fell in love with every quirky (but not cheesy) momment. SEE IT!!! PLEASE!

Number 2 was One Week It’s a great movie about a man driving across Canada on a motorbike after finding out he has stage 4 cancer. It’s a Canadian movie that resists the temptation to be overly sappy and sad or to have Paul Gross pop out every now & then. The dialogue and scenery are both breathtaking. SEE IT!

Stever Says:

In One Week the bike he rides across the country is a vintage Norton Commando! Beautiful movie and a beautiful bike.

In Once he rides his dads old Triumph, another beautiful vintage British motorcycle. ;)

But if you’re not into bikes they are still wonderful movies.

Dave Says:

Great tune, great bikes. I’ll rent the movies when I get a chance. You guys must be pretty cool peeps.

Cheers

suz Says:

I’ve seen Once three times. Love it! We enjoyed One Week. The Once sound track is AWESOME!!!

I have such a disturbing man-crush on Paul Gross. “Slings & Arrows” was the best show EVER.

Stever Says:

@Dave, WTF? “must be pretty cool peeps”???!!!??12???!

We are the coolest of peeps. srsly

I love it when you order me around.

LiLu Says:

Approximately 105% of the people in my life have told me how much I would love Once.

I really should get on that shiz…

Kim Says:

Dave- I’m really cool- Steve gets bonus points for being with me, but other than that… yeah, I’m the cool one.
Steve- You’re the best baby! The coolest guy EVER!

Brian Smart Says:

On a similar kinda note: I recently did some volunteer work for the Yukon River Quest through Whitehorse District Search and Rescue a couple of weeks ago. It is a 740 kilometre race from Whitehorse to Dawson. One of the boats there was called “Paddlers Abreast” which is 7 women, all friends, who are also breast cancer survivors. Not only did they finish their big voyageur canoe - they posted a pretty respectable time too.

Kim Says:

Nice! Good for them! I’ve driven across Canada and the US more than once for months at a time- while living in my car and just “checking shit out”- this movie made me miss those times

Hannah Says:

I’ve been wanting to see “One Week” for awhile. Thanks for reminding me!:)

f.B Says:

Once was so, so, so good. And that soundtrack…

Didn’t think it was possible, but I like you even more now.

Kim Says:

fb- is that because of my spectacular taste or because I threw my panties at the screen when you posted your song?

I’ll have to check these both out. I hadn’t heard of either until now.

In other news, I’ve taken the mp3 player off my blog for now, since I’m pretty sure that’s what was causing the Firefox crash (again). Try it and let me know if you can access without having to go through IE.

Kim Says:

Native Minnow- It’s working fine now! ;)
